What is an ND?
In the state of California, the title Naturopathic Doctor, or ND, is given upon the successful graduation from an accredited 4-year full-time post-graduate naturopathic medical program. NDs complete a total of 8 years of university. An ND must apply for California licensure from the Bureau of Naturopathic Medicine. Un-licensable naturopaths may call themselves naturopaths but may not use the terms ND or Naturopathic Doctor.
Naturopathic medical training consists of the comprehensive study of conventional medical sciences including anatomy, physiology, pathology, microbiology, immunology, clinical and physical diagnosis, laboratory diagnosis, cardiology, gastroenterology, gynecology, as well as the detailed study of a wide variety of natural therapies.
