Top 5 Weight Loss Tips

Hello! I hope you have a fun, stress free weekend planned as we honor all the women and men who made this 4th of July possible! With lots of extra treats around during this celebratory time, I thought I would share my top 5 weight loss tips:

Stop eating gluten and wheat.

Many of my patients lose up to 5lbs pounds in the first 10 days of cutting gluten and wheat out of their diet. Gluten and wheat are very inflammatory and because of this they lead to weight gain. In addition to their pro-inflammatory effects in the body, gluten and wheat are often found in processed foods that contain a lot of sugar and/or foods that are quickly broken down into sugar. Sugar and processed carbohydrates contribute significantly to weight gain.

Significantly decrease your consumption of bread, pasta and grains.

I don’t mean you have to avoid them 100%, just eat them in moderation and in smaller portions.

Eliminate alcohol.

Alcohol contains a lot of hidden calories and has a huge impact on weight gain. Many of my patients can lose up to 10lbs just by eliminating their daily one to two glasses of wine.

When you go grocery shopping, only buy foods along the perimeter of the store.

This outside section of the store usually contains the fresh foods, such as vegetables and fruit and the deli. The inner aisles contain the packaged and processed foods often loaded with salt, sugar and other fat promoting ingredients.

Drink water and herbal tea instead of the specialty drinks you can find at cafes and stores.

Specialty coffees and juices usually contain a lot of calories and sugar. It’s important to keep these to a minimum. It might be time to say goodbye to your daily Starbucks Macchiato if you’re looking to lose weight.
